Chart performance

When the song hit number 20 on the Billboard Hot Alternative (formerly, Modern Rock) Tracks chart, Kings of Leon still had two other songs in the top 20 – "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody". The feat made them one of only five bands to ever have three songs in the top 20 simultaneously. The song debuted and peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week ending October 31, 2009.

On the Canadian Hot 100, the song peaked at number 52.

Despite heavy radio play on BBC Radio 1, the song missed the UK Singles Chart Top 100 and peaked at #107. Although this marked the first time the band had missed the UK Top 100 for a single, "Notion" was heavily backed as a successful single beforehand due to the sensational success of Only by the Night containing the track.

The song has peaked at number 46 on the Australian ARIA Charts and has also become a radio hit there peaking at number 6 on the Australian Airplay charts.[1]
