It was launched in 2005 by the North African members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The post of president will be rotated among the five founding nations.[1]
The Egyptian Football Association withdrew its membership on the 19th of November 2009[2] citing the incidents that accompanied the playoff between Egypt and Algeria [3] but return in 2011.
