(Nordmann, 1840)Synonyms The Ratan goby, Ponticola ratan, is a Ponto-Caspian fish species in the family Gobiidae. It inhabits the brackish and fresh waters of the Black Sea basin. In the Caspian Sea it is presented by subspecies Ponticola ratan goebeli. Common found near the coasts of Bulgaria, Romania, it is also present in Ukraine (near Odessa, Ochakiv, and in the estuaries of the Dniester, Berezan, Dnieper and Bug), in the Karkinit Bay, and near the Crimean coasts.[1] It is also found in the Sea of Azov (western part), Kerch Strait, and north-eastern Black Sea.
