Alexander Davidovič von Nordmann (May 24, 1803 - June 25, 1866) was a Finnish biologist.
Biography
Alexander von Nordmann was born in Ruotensalmi (now Kotka) on May 24, 1803.[1] Nordmann was a professor at Odessa, and collected natural history specimens in southern Russia. He became professor of Zoology at the university of Helsinki in 1849. He died of heart failure on June 25, 1866.[1]
Taxa
The cladoceran Evadne nordmanni and the fir-tree Abies nordmanniana are named after him.[1] The standard author abbreviation Nordm. is used to indicate this individual as the author when citing a botanical name.[2]
