Early life and career
Nayer was born in New-Jersey to Cuban parents, but moved to Miami when she was 3 months old[3]. She began a modelling and acting career at a very young age, appearing in numerous ads, and participating in TV programs such as Alondra, Sábado Gigante or La piñata loca, but her real passion was pop music. She performed in Star Search at age 7 and then in numerous carnivals and events [4]. Supported by her parents, she moved to Los Angeles when she was 14, to record a six song demo. After shopping the demo to labels, Nayer secured a major recording deal at Miami-based and Latin music-oriented Sony Discos which was looking for a voice for a new track called "First Kiss (Primer Beso)". Recorded by Nayer at the age of 16, produced and remixed by DJ Fluid in both English and Spanish, "First Kiss (Primer Beso)" is a dance song, and climbed dance music charts soon after its release in June 2002 hitting the Billboard Top 40 Dance Charts. However, due to business reasons, Nayer’s debut album was never released.[5]
Nayer continued on sharpening her singing, dancing, guitar and piano skills while still modelling until she was picked up in 2005 to replace Candice Pillay in pop-R&B girl group Anything But Monday, put together by records executive Stephen Stone (of Grammy award-winning Ruffhouse Entertainment) who made the group signing to Universal Music group.[6] After a complete change of the line-up in 2008, Nayer being the only one out of the 5 group members to remain. They released their first single "Buckwild" in 2008, and then hit Double Platinum in 2009 by allowing DJs to access and file-share the master tracks for remixing of their second single "Bump". They were one of the first groups ever to hit platinum status by giving away free music and by openly sharing its master files.[7]
Nayer was discovered by Cuban-American rapper Pitbull in 2008 when she was a finalist in the "Miss 305" contest, broadcasted as a part of Pitbull's Spanish-language program on the cable channel Mun2 titled La Esquina.[8] Since then, she has appeared on various songs and videos of the rapper, from his albums Rebelution (2009), Armando (2010) and Planet Pit (2011).
In 2011, Nayer featured on Enrique Iglesias' single "Dirty Dancer" and on Pitbull's single "Give Me Everything" which topped charts worldwide.[9] In July 2011, Nayer released her first single since "First Kiss (Primer Beso,)" a song titled "Suave (Kiss Me)" features Pitbull and Swedish-Congolese singer Mohombi.[10][11]
