2012 North American Lacrosse League season
NALL logoSport Indoor lacrosse Founded 2011 Inaugural season 2012 No. of teams 5 Country(ies) United States Official website NorthAmericanLacrosseLeague.com The North American Lacrosse League (NALL) is a men's professional indoor lacrosse league based in the United States, set to begin play in January 2012. The league will be North America's third professional lacrosse league, after Major League Lacrosse (a field lacrosse league) and the National Lacrosse League (the established professional indoor lacrosse organization). Similar to the NLL but unlike other lacrosse leagues that play in the summer, the NALL will play its games in the winter and spring. The league has announced it does not intend to compete with the NLL, but will serve alternate markets where the NLL has no presence.[1]
Currently, five teams have announced they will be playing in the NALL's inaugural season: these are the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Shamrocks,[2] the Charlotte Copperheads,[3] the Jacksonville Bullies,[4] Kentucky Stickhorses, and the Hershey Haymakers.[5][6]

History
The league was announced in 2011, with the intention of starting play in January 2012. According to Sports Business Journal, the league once sought to become an official developmental league for the established National Lacrosse League, but the plan was rejected.[1] As of August 2011, it plans to field five teams in cities outside the NLL's market area for its inaugural season. Teams will play twelve games, six home and six away, as well as two exhibition games.[6] The United States and Ireland national teams are mentioned in the introductory press release as opponents for the exhibition games.[7]
