Background

Formation (2002-2006)

The band was formed originally under the name "Mutiny" in 2002, with students from J.P. Stevens High School, in Edison, New Jersey. The original line-up included Andrew "AJ" Jacobs on bass, Eiman Nejad on guitar and Phil Petrov on drums. They shortly after recruited Rob Savage on vocals and Debbie Plesnarski on keyboards. The band wanted to become a Children of Bodom cover band, and Eiman departed to focus on song writing after playing the first two shows. He was replaced by Ryan Nolan and they played a third show. Debbie's parents were against her musical interest and forced her to quit the band. The band would be without a keyboardist for the next three years. During 2004, personal differences would get AJ to fire Rob from vocal duties.

After graduation, in the summer of 2005, Phil departed for college and was replaced by Metuchen, New Jersey's Black Sand and Starless Nights drummer Mike Vassallo. Another J.P. Stevens student would come in on guitar, Luis Obregon, who had spent the last five years in the local thrash metal band Hammerhead with his two cousins. It was also during this summer that AJ welcomed his brother Brandon on second guitar. It would be the first time the band had a stable line-up of dual guitarists. Mike Vassallo would be kicked out later in the year, and would be replaced by Sam "Samus" Paulicelli (who had been in various big bands such as Suspyre and Abigail Williams), and would lead the band to bigger shows and better promotion.

After a brief stint with Kaan Akyol on vocals, AJ attempted to take over vocals, and took signing lessons, but after only a handful of shows performing bass/vocals, he opted to find a real vocalist. Luis would leave the band, and completely vanish out of sight, and Samus would quit to focus on Eliminator (with Mutiny's first guitarist Eiman).

Signing to Roadrunner and debut album (2009–2010)

They would go through a number of lineup changes and a name change before finally solidifying into the band they would eventually become. Jacobs recruited his younger brother, Brandon Jacobs, to play guitar, as well as drummer Bill Fore and keyboardist Drew Stavola. While searching for a singer, the band contacted Chris Clancy in England, based on a performance he posted on YouTube. Clancy moved to the United States and dedicated himself to the band. The final member, Daniel Bage, also came over from England when Clancy invited him to join the band in the studio to record some guitar solos.[6] In 2010, Mutiny Within released their self-titled debut on Roadrunner Records.[6]

Their song "Born to Win" is currently the theme song to the WWE wrestler Evan Bourne. Roadrunner Records released a demo of their song "Awake" on their downloadable compilation album Annual Assault (2009). The song "Awake" was later released to Roadrunner subscribers and on iTunes for purchase. They also recorded another song called The End for the Roadrunner Records EP God of War: Blood & Metal.

Their tours lined up included a North American summer tour supporting Soilwork with Death Angel running from July 14 through August 15, 2010. The band parted ways with drummer Bill Fore months after their self-titled debut album release. Wishing him the best of luck on moving forward, he was temporarily replaced with 25-year-old Chad Anthony, who is also from New Jersey. Anthony learned all of the songs in only two weeks to be ready in time for the 2010 North American tour with Soilwork and Death Angel.[5] They announced on September 20, 2010 that they needed to cancel their touring with Nevermore to do take the time to properly audition and rehearse for a new drummer.[7] On October 5, 2010, they announced that they also cancelled their tour with Scar Symmetry and Epica, to concentrate on their new material for their second album and find a new permanent drummer instead of using yet another fill in drummer.[8]

Departure of Chris Clancy, Planned Second Album and hiatus (2011)

On February 23, it was announced that the band had parted ways with Roadrunner Records.

The band released a thirty second trailer for a second album on youtube. Although no official announcement has been made, Chad Anthony was listed on the bands MySpace as their drummer. Chris Clancy announced his departure from the band due to financial reasons on June 20, 2011, while Drew Stavola had apparently left the band earlier. The band is currently making a process on these changes. They also said the that they will start the search for a new vocalist and new information of the upcoming album will be available soon.

On October 11th the band announced via their Facebook that the band would take an indefinate hiatus due to the difficulties of finding a new vocalist.

The statement was made by Bassist Andrew Jacobs:

It saddens us to announce today that we are taking an indefinite hiatus. We've been searching the globe for a replacement vocalist for most of the year, and we've come to a point where we simply can't afford to pass up other opportunities any longer. We want our fans to know that we tried to avoid this any way we could. To reach you all around the world with our music has truly been a dream come true, know that we would continue this journey right now in a heartbeat if we could. We will be updating the MW pages and our personal pages as we start to announce new projects, touring work, etc. Also, we are still on great terms with Chris and have discussed releasing some 2nd album material in the future. Thank you for all of your support throughout the years. MW fans are still the best out there, we will be keeping in touch with you guys.
