Mount Peter (1,220 feet (370 m)) is located in the New York – New Jersey Highlands, Shawangunk Ridge, in the U.S. state of New York.[3] The peak is located along the Appalachian Trail just south of New York State Route 17A, 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of Bellvale Mountain, 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Bellvale, New York and north northwest of Greenwood Lake, New York.

The mountain is named after an early pioneer to the area, Peter Conklin.[4] A hawkwatch tower occupies a summit just north of Mount Peter;[5] below the tower an ice cream parlor serves hikers and passing motorists.[6] One of the closest ski slopes to the New York City area occupies the northward-facing slope of the mountain.[7]
