History
According to local legend[3], Moranwali was built by the Rai Jats of Thalla, Jalandhar.
The Rai's moved to Khusropur, Jalandhar as Maharaja Ranjit Singh rewarded the Rai's by giving land in recognition of the Rai's contribution in annexing Jalandhar from the Hands of Singhpuria Misl (1730-1811) one of many Sikh Confederacy to his kingdom in 1811.
In 1849, the British built a cantonment and ordered many Rai's to leave Khusropur and construct a new village, Moranwali.
Moranwali is so named as the land had many Peacocks. The village was completed in 1850 and other Jat clans, such as the Gills and the Hayers joined the Rai's to live in the village. They all were Sikhs.
