(G. kohni, 1960)A Mississippi map turtle (Graptemys pseudogeographica kohni) derives its name, not from the state, but the river. Its range is along the Mississippi and its tributaries from Illinois/Missouri southward.[1] It is a popular pet for aquariumists and is very enjoyable to watch. Females are considerably larger than males. The male being 3 ½” to 5” and the female anywhere from 6” to 10”. Males have a leaner look more like juveniles, but females have a larger, bulkier build.
