Merc Clothing is a British based clothing company, which specialises in the production of shirts, suits, parkas, harrington jackets shoes and accessories, for both men and women's wear, (with the primary focus being on the former).[1] Although the brand was originally based around and tailored to suit the Mod style, they have adapted to incorporate a wider clientele, whilst retaining their unique and distinctive identity.[1] They also carry a more casual range of jeans and T-shirts and in common with several other brands, occasionally feature the Royal Air Force roundel which is often called the mod target, on several of their designs. Merc Clothing has always been, and remains to this day, a privately owned company.[citation needed]

History

Founded by Javid Alavi in London in 1967, and with a presence on Carnaby Street since that day, Merc Clothing came about to fill a demand for a specific look in 1960s England. Originally they also stocked brands such as Fred Perry, Farrah and Lonsdale as well as their own merchandise, only later dropping these brands to exclusively sell Merc products. Since then, Merc has continued to grow and gather recognition, and is now recognised[citation needed] as a global brand, sending goods to every continent.[citation needed]
