Sustainable initiatives
Recognized as a leader in the green building industry, McCownGordon's commitment is to provide clients with sustainable buildings that not only cost less to operate, but are healthier for the occupants and the environment.[citation needed] More than 70 percent of the firm's operations and estimating team are LEED Accredited Professionals, allowing it to offer leadership and expertise vital to the creation of a sustainable community. The firm includes a sustainable construction goal and provides training and direction to owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors on each of its projects, whether a building is designed to achieve LEED Certification or not. By incorporating eco-friendly construction techniques and products on every project, the firm provides better working conditions to construction crews and long-term benefits to the end user.
McCownGordon took an initiative to elevate its sustainable presence on jobsites. The McCownGordon Eco-Friendly Mobile Office Trailer is the first of its kind in the nation, and was refurbished from a trailer destined for the landfill. Rebuilt entirely with recyclable materials, the trailer includes solar panels, wind turbine, composting toilet, recycled flooring and furniture, recycled fiber insulation, FSC Certified wood framing, and many more eco-friendly features. In fact, use of the trailer itself can contribute an Innovation & Design credit toward LEED Certification.[9]
In addition to sustainable field operations, McCownGordon is committed to implementing green practices in the office with its Go Green Program. The program gives constant reminders to associates about the use of unnecessary products, recycling, printing and general awareness of sustainable practices. The use of paper and plastic products has been eliminated by the use of permanent glassware and utensils, which are utilized for meetings, lunches and everyday use. In addition, recycle containers for all possible recycled products are available.
