Mazkeret Moshe
Mazkeret Moshe, 2008

Mazkeret Moshe (Hebrew: מזכרת משה) is a neighborhood of Jerusalem founded in 1882 and completed in 1885. Its construction enjoyed financial support from Moses Montefiore's foundation, established in 1874 when Mr. Montefiore, a British-Jewish philanthropist, was 90 years old. (The name "Mazkeret Moshe" means "memorial to Moses.") The neighborhood was intended for Ashkenazic Jews, while the adjacent neighborhood Ohel Moshe, also funded by Montefiore's foundation, was intended for Sephardic Jews.
