History
Matt & Kim
The duo released their first album, Matt & Kim, on October 26, 2006 under iheartcomix. The album garnered modest sales and sold around 7,000 copies in the United States according to Nielson SoundScan. Many indie fans praised their music, and the two gained popularity through their many outgoing tours. [3]
Grand
Following the success of their first album, the duo, in seeking a record label, signed on with Fader Label. Soon after, their second album, Grand, was released on January 20, 2009. [4] This is also the first album to be released under new manager, Kevin Patrick, who got them the contract with Fader Label. [5]
The video for "Lessons Learned", in which the duo strips nude in Times Square, was shot in February 2009. [6] On September 13, 2009, Matt & Kim won the Breakthrough Video award for "Lessons Learned" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.[7] Matt & Kim supported Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance on select dates of the 2011 Honda Civic Tour
Sidewalks
On November 2nd, 2010, the duo released their third album, Sidewalks, once again under Fader Label. Under the direction of Ben Allen, the album as a whole adopts a more refined, hip-hop sound in comparison to the previous two, while still maintaining the upbeat and party-esque style they are known for. [8]
