Matthieu Rachmajda (also widely known as MattRach) is a French musician who was born on February 15, 1991. He comes from the Gommegnies region in France.[1] Matthieu, although most popular for his interpretation such as "Canon Rock" and "Vive le Vent d'Hiver", also plays battery (drums) and bass. In an interview with French news channel Canal+, he admitted that he played more bass and battery to avoid having automatism while playing guitar and therefore keeping his improvisation natural.[2] He rose to fame through his adaptation of Canon Rock in guitar.[3] Achieving an astonishing 72 millions views on YouTube,[4] he is considered of one of the most popular French artists on YouTube and on the internet. He now plays with his band called Mattrach's & Play.

Biography

He grew up in Gommegnies, a small and isolated village in Northern France. For his sixth Christmas, Matthieu received his first electric guitar, a Jim Harley. He soon started taking lessons from a professor and started learning classical guitar along with music theory. For nine years he kept learning this way but is not taking lessons anymore. His primary guitars are Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster and, for acoustic songs, he uses a Fender Stratacoustic.

In February 2003, he joined the familial musical band. From 2004 through 2007, he gave multiple concerts and shows throughout the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, playing remixes and compositions.

In July 2006, aged fifteen, he interpreted Canon Rock, a neoclassical arrangement of Pachelbel's "cannon in D" by JerryC. He uploaded his performance on YouTube. It became a tremendous success soon after. In the next weeks, he was invited to the French TV show Le Morning de Cauet and played "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple live.[5]

Matthieu is sponsored by Fender since 2007. His compositions and songs are sold mainly through iTunes.

Matthieu affirms that his favorites songs are Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses, Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix, Child In Time by Deep Purple, Communication Breakdown by Led Zeppelin and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Due to his growing and demanding musical career, Matthieu decided to drop out of school in 12th grade.[6]

The album made by Matthieu and his band came out on May 24, 2010.[7]
