Mantaiika (Greek: Μανταίικα) is a settlement 19 km west of Tripoli, Arcadia, Greece. It is part of the community Chrysovitsi in the municipal unit of Falanthos. Its population is 67 people (2001 census). Built on the slopes of Mainalo at 1,000 m and is one of the highest villages in the Peloponnese.

Location and transportation

Manteika is located NNE of Megalopoli, and SE of Lagkadia.

The village has about 3 km of paved road, 3 km of gravel road and has about 2 km of hydro and phone lines.

Geography

Much of the area are mountainous and are also forested with pine, cypresses and cedars, farmlands are around the village and barren land are at the highest elevations.

History

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until the 1970s, the village recovered a small part of the population between 1991 and 2001. Manteika became connected with asphalt in the late 1990s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of Falanthos.

There is an elementary school, a church and a big square. The nearest high school is in Alonistaina and the nearest hospital is in Tripoli.
