The Chief of Police is Douglas W. Keen. The MCPD is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).[2]

Investigative Services Division

The Investigative Services Division consists of a team of detectives, officers and support personnel whose function is to investigate incidents and criminal reports to lead to the identification and apprehension of criminal offenders. Functions and specialties within the division include:

Animal Control Services Division
Sergeant Chris Perry, Chief Animal Control Officer
- Operates/manages Animal Shelter and adoption services for unwanted, stray, and homeless animals
- Achieves compliance of animal care and control ordinances
- Assists citizens with proper tools and information for pet owners
- Respond to investigate reports of animal abuse, neglect, nuisance animals, dangerous animals, & bites from domestic animals and wildlife
- Maintains a lost and found data file
- Issues dog licenses
- Respond accordingly to wildlife complaints

Age: 38
Sergeant Conner was shot and killed after responding to a report of a man sitting on his front porch with an AR-15 rifle and firing shots in the air. As police units arrived, the suspect entered his townhouse and exited the rear door. Sergeant Conner was approaching the rear of the townhouse when he encountered the suspect. Shots were exchanged, with the suspect being shot in the foot and Sergeant Conner being shot three times. The suspect was taken into custody by other officers.
Sergeant Conner was transported to Prince William Hospital and then flown to Fairfax Hospital, where he died a few hours later. The fatal wound was a gunshot to the back of Sergeant Conner's head. The investigation revealed the suspect had had an argument earlier in the day with his wife and was upset. Sergeant Conner was shot with an AR-15 rifle.
The suspect was later convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He was executed nine years later.
Sergeant Conner succumbed to his injuries the next day. He had been with the agency for eight years and was survived by his wife and four children.
