Ahmad Balal,, Lahore, Pakistan) is a Pakistani administrator, diplomat and artist, presently serving as Pakistan's Consul General in Hong Kong.[1]
His family migrated to Pakistan from Amritsar, Punjab (now in India) in 1947, his ancestors having originally migrated there from Kashmir.[2] Dr Balal obtained an MBBS medical degree from the King Edward Medical College in Lahore. After a few years' practice, he joined the UNHCR, in Pakistan, as a junior employee, and then, sat for and passed the qualifying examination for Pakistan's elite Civil Service in 1987. In the early part of his career as an officer of the District Management Group, he served as a magistrate, Assistant Commissioner and later Deputy Secretary in various postings within the country.[3] In 2008-2009, he was selected to go as Pakistan's Consul-General at Hong Kong, where he is still presently posted. He has done much to improve Pakistan's image in Hong Kong and mainland China, and he has also actively promoted and defended the rights of Pakistani and Muslim students in universities and colleges in Hong Kong.[4] [5]
