According to the Canada 2006 Census, the town has a population of 9,329. [1]
The municipality is home to two golf courses. Pine Knot Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole championship golf course. Dorchester on Thames Golf Club is a scenic executive-style golf course located along the banks of the Thames River. [2]
The local arena recently underwent a 10 million-dollar expansion and opened on November 2, 2010. This expansion added a second NHL-sized ice pad, a gymnasium, and many other facilities to go along with upgrades to the existing part.
Home of Michael Nolan, 7 time Canadian Decathlon champion, finished 11th overall at the Worlds Track & Field Championships held in Edmonton Alberta, August 2001. One of only 3 Canadian decathletes to reach the 8100 point mark at that time.

Schools
There are four schools in Dorchester. As with most of the schools in the areas surrounding London, they are part of either the Thames Valley District School Board or the London District Catholic School Board.
- River Heights Public School: Located on Hamilton Road. This is a school for children in junior kindergarten to Grade 3.
- Northdale Central Public School: Located on Catherine Street. Most children come here after River Heights, for Grades 4 to 8.
- St. David's Catholic School: Also on Catherine Street, next to Northdale. This school is for Catholic children from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
- Lord Dorchester Secondary School: Located on Queen Street. This is Dorchester's only secondary school.
Events
There are many annual events held in Dorchester, such as the Dorchester Fair, the Dorchester Car Show, the Donnybrook Dash,and Canada Day Celebration.
On August 28, 2010, the largest rock concert was held, known as TC Rocks, hosting local bands as well as Kim Mitchell and Honeymoon Suite. Funds raised were donated to the Facilities Expansion Committe [5].
The Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition has become an annual event held at the Dorchester Fairgrounds every Civic Long Weekend. This event brings fiddlers and steppers from all over the province and the North Eastern United States.
Scouts from all over Canada and the USA attend a camporee called the Dorchester International Brotherhood Camporee (DIBC). The camporee attracts as many as 4,000 scouts and girl guides from Canada and the US every year. The camp is held annually on Mothers Day weekend, with its 22nd installment set to take place in May 2011.[6]

C-Radio is a local internet radio station that plays music along the whole genre spectrum. It is a not-for-profit station that has been running since 2006. [9] The station does not broadcast through radio waves and can only be accessed through its website.
