Background
David Kaplan was a wrestler at Woodbridge High School and at Old Dominion University. During high school he was an all-state wrestler. Kaplan graduated from college with a degree in international studies and went to work as a recruiter for the Central Intelligence Agency. He resigned from that job to become a professional mixed martial artist.[1]
Mixed martial arts
As a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir, he defeated Fernando Bernstein with a rear naked choke in the first round to guarantee himself a spot on the show. Kaplan was selected by Frank Mir to be on Team Mir. He lost a fight against Phillipe Nover by rear naked choke in the first round, eliminating him from the tournament.
Kaplan lost his UFC debut against former Ultimate Fighter cast mate Junie Browning at the TUF 8 Finale. At UFC 98, Kaplan lost to George Roop via split decision. After the loss, Kaplan was cut from the promotion.

David Kaplan was a contestant on the Singing Bee, winning the show.
