Mixed martial arts career

Dominique Robinson is a self trained, managed, and promoted mixed martial artist that made his debut first quarter 2005, fighting primarily in the San Diego/Tijuana area for TJ Fight Nights. With no trainers or managers, he fought in these smaller shows "for fight experience" he said, in order to make it to the bigger stages. He made his public debut for the Gladiator Challenge promotion, where he fought up a weight class vs Charles Bennett's friend Jeff Ramputi on 20 hours notice. After fighting a weight class above for the second time vs Brazil's Iure Silva Leal, Robinson fought in Mexico a few more times after the controversial loss to gain more experience before calling it quits to Mexico, pursuing the sport more seriously, and taking a fight with Internet antagonist Zack Yngojo.

Palace Fighting Championship/Tachi Palace Fights

He then signed with a deal with California based promotion, Palace Fighting Championship, now known as TPF/Tachi Palace Fights. His first fight with the promotion came at PFC 9 against long time vet Chuck Kim. While in the PFC he fought former KOTC champ Takumi Nakayama, and Carlo Prater for the PFC lightweight belt before the promotion sank. He made his TPF debut against TUF and UFC veteran Gabe Ruediger. Ruediger submitted Robinson in the closing stages of second round via rear naked choke. In the match there was speculation that the timer cut out and the match should have gone to a third round.

In his second fight with the promotion Robinson faced another TUF and UFC veteran Dave Kaplan at TPF 5. This time Robinson was victorious winning by TKO in the third round.

He then faced another former UFC fighter John Gunderson at Tachi Palace Fights 8: All or Nothing. Robinson was dominating the fight and in the third round he mounted Gunderson and finished him with ground and pound gaining the biggest victory of his career to date.
