Personal life

Daud Arsala, known as Braved and well known personality in Nangarhar, is from a distinguished Afghan family with a long record of service. Their forefather Arsala Khan was Foreign Minister of Afghanistan under the famous king Amir Sher Ali and was a leader of resistance to the British in the second Anglo-Afghan War. Two of his uncles, Mohammad Rafiq Khan Jabbarkhail and Haji Zaman Khan Jabbarkhail, were members of the 7th session of the Afghan Parliament which worked to expand the rights of ordinary citizens under the monarchy.

Political Background

Daud Arsala’s brothers Haji Abdul Haq , Haji Abdul Qadir and Haji Din Mohammad were Mujahideen commanders who fought against the forces of the USSR during the Soviet Occupation of Afghanistan from 1980 through 1989. In 2001, Abdul Haq was captured and executed by the Taliban while pursuing efforts to promote the formation of a broad-based representative government. Haji Abdul Qadir served as a Governor of Nangarhar Province after the Soviet Occupation and was credited with maintaining peace in the province during the years of civil conflict that followed the Soviet withdrawal. Haji Abdul Qadir served as a Vice President in the newly formed post-Taliban government of Hamid Karzai, but was assassinated by unknown assailants in 2002.

It is believed that many of the political activists campaigning for Hamid Karzai have been tortured and killed in several parts of Afghanistan for the fact that they helped in the process of establishing Hamid Karzai's government, recently before the presidential election in 2009 some of the activists in eastern Afghanistan in Nangarhar were brutally tortured and decapitated while few were lucky to escape .

On February 22, 2010 Mohammed Zaman was killed in Ningarhar province with his 14 Bodyguards by Taliban which shows how active they are in Ningarhar, Haji Zaman who survived 30 years of Gorilla war was at last killed when he was handing over the ownership papers of land to his villagers.
