Dan Long is an American broadcaster and sports commentator. He is also the founder, owner, CEO and host of DL Sports Media, an Internet-based sports broadcasting outlet.

Personal life

Daniel Kane Long was born at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He lives currently in Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey, and is a resident of the city's historic Eastside Park neighborhood. He is a graduate of Saint Anne School in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, an all-boys high school respected for its academic and athletic programs.

After graduating from Bergen Catholic, Long enrolled at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. While at Providence, he hosted "The Sports Fix," a weekly sports program broadcast on the student-run radio station WDOM 91.3FM.

In 2005, Long transferred from Providence to Georgetown University in Washington, DC, enrolling in the university’s American Studies program. While at Georgetown, Long continued his broadcasting career both in radio and television. He was the lead Play-by-Play Announcer and Studio Host for sports programming at WGTB Radio, and was the Sports Director of Georgetown University Television (GUTV).

Through these capacities, Long became the Play-by-Play Voice of Georgetown Hoyas Football, Women's Basketball, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Lacrosse.^[1]

During his tenure at WGTB and GUTV, Long was able to assist the Georgetown University Athletic Department in the One Hundred Years of Georgetown Basketball project, writing articles on Hoyas legends Patrick Ewing and Allen Iverson,^[2] as well as serving as the Public Address Announcer for some Field Hockey, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Lacrosse games. Long also followed the Hoyas Men’s Basketball team's run to the Final Four in the 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, their first Final Four since 1985. Long graduated from Georgetown University in May 2007.

Following his graduation from Georgetown, Long returned to New Jersey and joined the on-air personalities of WGHT 1500, Pompton Lakes as a sideline reporter for the station’s award-winning high school football coverage. He was able to report on games throughout Bergen, Passaic, Morris and Sussex counties, including state and former state champions Wayne Hills High School (Wayne), Glen Rock High School and Don Bosco Preparatory High School (Ramsey).

DL Sports Media

Long founded and now works as the CEO of DL Sports Media, an Internet-based sports broadcasting outlet. At present, DL Sports Media is the official Internet broadcast home for Bergen Catholic Athletics through the Bergen Catholic Radio Network,^[3] covering football, soccer, basketball and wrestling events throughout the academic year. Long also serves as the play-by-play commentator for these events, as well as host for pre- and post-game shows complete with head coach and player interviews.

Long announced Bergen Catholic football games to over 16,000 listeners during the 2010 season, a 165% increase in listening audience from the previous football season.

New to the 2011 spring season, DL Sports Media now broadcasts Bergen Catholic home baseball games from the newly-dedicated Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck County Park, and Long serves as the play-by-play announcer during these broadcasts.
