Overview
The school has a strength of around 7,500[citation needed] students & the campus is spread around 4.5 acres.The curriculum is based on CBSE directives under the guidance of Prep. There are seven sections named A-G in each class till standard 10[citation needed]Xth. The school runs in two sessions; morning and afternoon for XI and XII[citation needed]. This is due to the large number of students who apply for admission in the Science stream.The school has a record of giving 40-50 students to IIT every year.
The principal of the school is Mr. D. R. Singh.
The cut-off for admission in Science stream is well above 92%[citation needed].The school has laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, computers and maths. The school has two libraries - the general library and the reference library (for the students of class XI-XII)[citation needed].

The school consists of separate campuses for primary, secondary and higher secondary. A big and sprawling section for senior secondary has been constructed.[citation needed]

The school began in 1964 as Jawahar Vidya Mandir[citation needed]. The principal was Ms Parmar[citation needed]. The school started with only one building, where the present Primary School is located[citation needed]. During this period the school had Nursery, KG I and KG II classes before Class I. In 1971 the Primary School building was extended for more classes/sections.[citation needed] In 1973, the class KG II was removed, the children were given two options; one either to get double promoted to class I or remain in KG II.[citation needed]
In 1973, the school changed its name from Jawahar Vidya Mandir to DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir and started following the CBSE Board and again in 2008 it changed to Jawahar Vidya Mandir[citation needed]. In 1975, the new school building was ready and the School got divided into Primary School and Secandary School[citation needed]. In 1975 the School principal was Dr Vohra who continued till 1978-79 and was replaced with Mr Ramakrishna as the principal[citation needed]. Mrs Krishnaswamy was the Vice Principal. Subsequently, Mr RE Singh (from Netarhat) joined as Dean of the school with Mr Ramakrishna continuing as principal[citation needed]. Subsequently, Mr Ramakrishna left with Mr R.E Singh as the principal[citation needed].
Mr. R.E.Singh, Principal (1983–2000) was succeeded by Mr. D.R.Singh (2000 till date)[citation needed].
