Central Board of Secondary Education ,New Delhi , and is managed by a School Managing Committee appointed by MECON, Ranchi.Overview
The school has a strength of around 5,500 students and the schooling based on CBSE pattern is offered from Nursery to Std XII. There are 7 sections named A-G in each class till Class Xth. The school runs in two sessions- morning and afternoon for
XI and XII. This is so primarily because of the large number of students who apply for admission in the Science stream in the school. The cut-off for admission in Science stream is well above 92%. Much of the school's attraction is due to her. The school labs for physics, chemistry, biology, computers and maths are old and lack many equipments. The school also offers two libraries - The General Library (for general use)(quite outdated) and The Reference Library (for the students of class XI-XII). Many students of the school have gone on to have successful careers. The school gained much of its present pre-eminence under the administration of Mr. R.E.Singh, Principal(1983-2000) who was succeded by Mr. D.R.Singh (2000 till date).
As far as the teachers are concerned, this school has some very good teachers.
Current Captain of Indian National Cricket Team,
Mahendra Singh Dhoni , has also studied at this school until 10+2 (Senior Secondary/Intermediate).Gallery
The School was started in 1964 as Jawahar Vidya Mandir. The principal then was Ms Parmar. Subsequently the school started with only one building, where the present Primary School is located. During this period the school had Nursery, KG I and KG II classes before Class I. In 1971 the Primary School building was extended for more classes/ sections. In 1973, the class KG II was removed, the children were given two options; one either to get double promoted to class I or remain in KG II. In 1973, the school changed its name from Jawahar Vidya Mandir to DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir and started following the CBSE Board. In 1975, the new school building was ready and the School got divided into Primary School and Secandary School. In 1975 the School principal was Dr Vohra who continued till 1978-79 and was replaced with Mr Ramakrishna as the principal. Mrs Krishnaswamy was the Vice Principal. Subsequently, Mr RE Singh (from Netarhat) joined as DEAN of the school with Mr Ramakrishna continuing as principal. Subsequently, Mr Ramakrishna left with Mr R.E Singh as the principal. The school gained much of its present pre-eminence under the administration of Mr. R.E.Singh, Principal(1983-2000) who was succeded by Mr. D.R.Singh (2000 till date). Mr D.R Singh, who started his career in the same school as the Chemistry teacher also went to Tanzania for about two years before returning back to the School.
