Loyola School of Jamshedpur was established in 1947 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a Roman Catholic religious order founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in 1540. The Jesuit Educational Objectives are to produce men and women who have deep faith in God and in their fellowmen and, imbued with this faith, to work for justice and equality.

The Jesuits have established many schools and colleges in India in which young men and women belonging to every social status, community and linguistic group, are educated through the medium of English and other regional languages. These institutions are a part of the Catholic Church’s efforts to share in the country’s educational undertakings.

The School is owned and run by "Loyola Jamshedpur", a registered society which also constitutes the Governing body of the school. The responsibility of the day to day running of the school is vested in the Principal.

As a Catholic school, Loyola has for its inspiration and guidance, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Special attention is paid to faith formation of the Catholic students, through weekly religion classes, option to attend the Mass when it is celebrated, recollections and the annual retreat. Even so, the school's student profile is very cosmopolitan. Loyola Jamshedpur is one of the most illustrious schools in the Eastern region of India and its alumnus includes internationally well known and respected figures in the fields of art, literature, science, sports, economics, administration and medicine. Luminaries like the modernist dancer Astad Deboo, musician and art critic Adi Gazder, novelist Joydeep Roy Bhattacharya, Dr. Ashok Chatterjee, MIT mathematician Dr. Abhinav Kumar, National Centre for Radioastronomy director Dr. Yashwant Gupta, media person Siddhartha Basu, Tata Steel deputy MD and UPenn alumnus Niroop Mahanty and many more have passed through the portals of this school. The school which had a long tradition of being only a boys school with the exception of girls studying only in standard 11 and 12; has recently turned coeducational. The school has girls from kindergarten to 7th and in 11th and 12th. In, 3 years time, the whole school will turn co-ed.

Tagged among the top 15 most respectable schools nationwide, by a survey conducted by Education World and IMRB(Indian Market Research Bureau), Loyola School has more than one reason to be looked up to as a pioneer in the sphere of comprehensive education.

Loyola, Loyola, till the echoes ring again
For here we all are true, and our hearts are strong
And merrily we will sing, as we march along
Loyola, Loyola, till the echoes ring again
