The ATL SkyTrain is an automated people mover (APM) line at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.[1] The system opened on December 8, 2009. Unlike The Plane Train, which is located underground, inside the secure zone of the airport, the ATL SkyTrain is located outside the airport's secure zone and is elevated, crossing Interstate 85. In addition to the Consolidated Rental Car Facility, the new APM connects the airport to the Gateway Center of the Georgia International Convention Center, where a new station was built. The ride takes five minutes to travel from the terminal to the Hartsfield-Jackson Rental Car Center and vice versa, with a two and a half minute wait at each station.[2] The station at the airport is located adjacent to MARTA's Airport station at the west end of the main terminal complex. The ATL SkyTrain uses Mitsubishi Crystal Mover vehicles as its rolling stock, (unlike the inter-concourse APM, which uses Bombardier Innovia APM 100 vehicles, delivered in 2002). The system uses six two-car trains.[2] The Hartsfield-Jackson Rental Car Center also features a maintenance and storage building where trains can be stored and repaired when necessary.[3] The train announcements are voiced by professional voice talent, Sharon Feingold, who is also the voice behind the Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga.
