Conference of Ministers-President

The Conference of Ministers-President[1] is a committee formed by the sixteen States of Germany (Bundesländer) to coordinate policy in areas that fall within in the sole jurisdiction of the Länder, e.g. broadcasting. The conference is no constitutional organ, therefore formal agreements between the federal states are fixed in a Staatsvertrag, e.g. Rundfunkstaatsvertrag and have to be .

The first meeting of the conference took place in 8–10 July 1948, preceding the formation of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1954 it is a permanent institution.

The conference meets four times a year. The chair of the meeting is rotated on an annual basis among the federal states according to a fixed rota:

  4. Saxony-Anhalt
  5. Schleswig-Holstein
  6. Thuringia
  7. Baden-Württemberg
  8. Brandenburg
  9. Bremen
  10. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  11. Saarland
  12. Hamburg
  13. Bavaria
  14. Berlin
  15. Northrhine-Westfalia

Bavaria was first to hold the office, since October 2009 Rhineland-Palatinate chairs the meetings.
