The Communist Party of the Soviet Union General-Secretarial election of 1987 was a contest between the incumbent General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, the incumbent Prime Minister Nikolay Ryzhkov, and the incumbent First Secretary of Oryol Oblast Gennady Zyuganov. Gorbachev was helped by a strong economic recovery from the deep recession. In the national popular vote, Gorbachev received 80.1% to Ryzhkov's 9.96% and Zyuganov's 9.94%.

Gorbachev took office on March 11, 1985, took office that from the election on January 1, 1988 and held power until December 25, 1991.

This is the first election of the presidential that people can votes in the history of the all of Communist Party.
