It is bordered by the provinces of Cuenca, Albacete, Jaén, Córdoba, Badajoz, and Toledo. Its extent is effectively that of the old province of La Mancha. Its capital is Ciudad Real.
The Campo de Calatrava historical comarca is located in the centre of the province.
Protected areas
The Tablas de Daimiel National Park is located in Ciudad Real, which also shares the Cabañeros National Park with Toledo Province.
