Christiaan Teeuwsen

Christiaan Teeuwsen is best known for his work with the pipe organ. He has performed concerts in different areas in Europe, as well as in North America. He was twice a recipient of the Rahn Organ Scholarhip, and also received first prize scholarhips from the Canada Council for Performers in Classical music.[1] He has produced a number of recordings, and is now an active member of the music department at Redeemer University College.

Biography

Christiaan Teeuwsen was born in St. Catharines Ontario, Canada in 1957. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980 from Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, and then went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in 1983 and Doctor of Musical Arts in 1994 at the University of Iowa, completing studies with Dr. Delores Bruch and Dr. Delbert Disselhorst.[2]

While at The University of Iowa he was twice a recipient of the Rahn Organ Scholarship and also won first prize scholarships from the Canada Council for Performers in Classical music.[3]

In 1985, Doctor Teeuwsen received the Solo Diploma in Organ from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During studies in The Netherlands and Germany he was assistant organist to Klaas Bolt at the Grote of Sint Bavo Kerk in Haarlem (1983-85). During his tenure in Europe Christiaan Teeuwsen studied with Harald Vogel at the North German Organ Academy and Harpsichord with Kees Rosenhart in Haarlem, The Netherlands.[4]

Doctor Teeuwsen recorded The Organ Works of Georg Böhm, which contained various works by Georg Böhm and stands as a valuable contribution to classic music.[5]

Doctor Teeuwsen is currently Associate Professor of Music (Organ and Choral department) at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, and Director of Music at MacNab St. Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
