Redeemer University College located in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, is a private undergraduate university of classical Christian conviction with over 850 students and faculty under the administration of Dr. Justin Cooper.

History

Redeemer University College was founded by the Rev. Henry R. DeBolster in 1982. Rev. Henry R. DeBolster was the acting president until Dr. Justin Cooper took over the duties.

Programs

Redeemer University College offers over 40 different majors and minors. Redeemer University College offers several degrees certified by the Council of Ontario Universities. Besides its undergraduate degree in various disciplines of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Redeemer also offers degree programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).

Redeemer University College has a young computer science program.

Residence

Redeemer offers three styles of residence: Townhouse Residences are for first year students; Augustine Hall are for second year students and independent apartments are for mature/married/senior students or students with disabilities.

Research

Faculty

Redeemer has 50 full time + 40 part time faculty. Among Redeemer faculty are Albert M. Wolters in religion and classical languages, Harry Van Dyke and James Payton in history, David Koyzis in political science, and Elaine Botha emerita, in philosophy and literary theory, Raymond Louter in Theatre Arts, and novelist Hugh Cook in English.

Among the computer science faculty are Derek Schuurman and Kevin VanDerMeulen.

Partnerships

Redeemer University College holds membership in the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, the International Association for Promotion of Christian Higher Education, and the Association of Reformed Institutions of Higher Education in North America.

Athletics

Redeemer Royals fields sports teams in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association. The Royals, as they are called, compete in men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and indoor soccer. They also have a men's hockey team in the Niagara Christian Hockey League.

The 2007-08 year was a banner one for the Royals, as it featured their first CCAA All-Canadian (volleyball player Ryan Talsma) and their first OCAA Gold Medal, which came in Men's Indoor Soccer.

The Royals also have four people inducted into the OCAA hall of fame. Terry Talsma (volleyball and soccer), Michelle Van Berkel (volleyball), Colin DeRaaf (volleyball) and Dr. John Byl (builder).
