It is also called Kotha Chowtapalli and Patha Chowtapalli.
Environs
Most of the residents of the village are farmers. The primary water supply for this village comes from Krishna River. The primary language is Telugu. It has elementary school and high school up to the 10th standard. Both schools teach in Telugu. There is a library donated by the Atluri family. Many people from this village have settled in North America. Atluri Rajendra Prasad is the president of the village.
Famous residents
A well known singer and music director, Ghantasala Venktateswara Rao, was born and raised in the village.
The village was ruled at one time by Indian Congress party leader Pinnanamaneni Balakrishna. Balakrishna was known for his strong leadership in the village, and was supported by Pinnamaneni family who ruled Krishna District politics for many years.
Telugu writers Pitcheswara Rao Atluri and Surapaneni Kakulayya also originated from Chowtapalli. Several film personalities were from here including Sri Atluri Poornachandra Rao Garu and Atluri Pundari Kakshiah Garu.

Temples
The village has a Shiridi SaiBaba temple which was constructed by the late Sri Lingam Nagabhushnam Garu. It was renovated in 1999. The village also has a temple of Ramalayam, constructed by the late Atluri Sri Venkatapathi Garu.
