The series ran on ABC from September 22, 2011 to November 10, 2011.[2]
Charlie's Angels was canceled on October 14, 2011 after airing only four episodes.[3] It burned off three of the remaining four episodes and concluded its run on ABC on November 10, 2011.[4]
Contents
Cast
- Annie Ilonzeh as Kate Prince, a former Miami cop[5]
- Minka Kelly as Eve French, a street racer[6]
- Rachael Taylor as Abby Sampson, a thief
- Ramon Rodriguez as John Bosley, a hacker.[7]
- Victor Garber as the voice of Charles "Charlie" Townsend.[8]
Production
A reboot of the original series has been in the works since late 2009, when screenwriter Josh Friedman was hired to write a pilot script.[9] Friedman's script was ultimately rejected, and ABC hired Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to pen a new version.[10][10]
In an interview, Alfred Gough expressed his desire to avoid doing anything "campy or retro."[11] He went on to say, "The characters are real and emotionally grounded, but they still like to have fun, wear great clothes, solve crime, and kick some serious ass...we hope to surprise people and bring a whole new generation to Charlie's Angels."[11] Robert Wagner was set to star as Charlie, but due to scheduling conflicts, had to exit the project.[12] After an exhaustive search, Victor Garber was finally cast as the new voice of Charlie.[8]
Veteran television director Marcos Siega directed the pilot.[13] Filming began in Miami on March 8, 2011.[14] Additionally, the exterior shots for the Townsend Agency were of The Savoy Hotel in South Beach, located at 425 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, Florida, 33139.[15]
On May 13, 2011, ABC picked the project up to series. On May 17, 2011, ABC announced that the show would air Thursdays at 8:00 pm Eastern/7:00 pm Central, starting at the beginning of the 2011–12 United States network television season.[16]
However, just after the fourth episode aired, ABC announced on October 14, 2011 that it has decided to cancel the series because of low ratings.[17] The network aired three of the remaining four episodes that have already been produced.
International broadcasts
The series has been picked up in these following countries:

- Australia by Nine Network, which aired the original series. However, after airing only two episodes, the Nine Network replaced the show's time slot and moved the series over to the network's other channel, GO!. GO! has since removed the program from its schedule.
- The American Forces Network, for military viewers stationed overseas.
- New Zealand by TV2, After cancellation in the US, TVNZ pulled the show. It is set to return at a later date.[19]

The show has received mostly negative reviews,[29][30] with many of the reviews criticizing the acting,[31] confusing plot, and useless action scenes. It has received a 30/100 on Metacritic.[32] Matthew Gilbert of The Boston Globe gave the show a "C" grade commenting "The underwhelming cast brings nothing to the boilerplate action. Kelly is miscast as a biker chick, and making Bosley a hunk with computer skills fails to add life."[33] IGN's Matt Fowler named it the worst pilot of the fall, pointing out the bad acting and writing,[34] saying that he didn't "believe that these ladies could change a flat tire, much less take down a notorious human trafficker" and that the series should have gone dark like Nikita or copied the tone of Burn Notice.[35]
