Early life
Woodside was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York. After injuring his knee while playing for his high school football team (at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, New York), Woodside heard the drama club performing a scene from a play and was interested. This exposure pushed Woodside to an acting career.

In the fifth season of the series, he returned to reprise the role as a guest star in episodes 1–2 and 14–18. Woodside returned as a series regular for the sixth season as the President of the United States.
