Professional work
Birbiglia has released three albums, including My Secret Public Journal Live, which was named one of the best comedy albums of the decade by the Onion AV Club.[2]
His off-Broadway show, Sleepwalk With Me, opened November 11, 2008 at the Bleecker Street Theater.[3][4][5]
Birbiglia has contributed to the Public Radio International-distributed program This American Life.[6]
In October 2010, Birbiglia released a book, Sleepwalk With Me and Other Painfully True Stories,[7] which debuted as number 29 on the hardcover nonfiction New York Times Bestseller List[8][9] and number four on the hardcover nonfiction section of the Washington Post Political Bookworm Best Sellers.[10]
He also had a small role as the check in man in the 2011 film Cedar Rapids.
Birbiglia has said that he and Ira Glass are working on a screenplay adaptation of Sleepwalk With Me.[11][12]
Personal life
Birbiglia attended St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.[13] He graduated from St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts in 1996 [14][15] and subsequently graduated from Georgetown University in 2000.[16] During college Birbiglia performed as a member of the Georgetown Players Improv Troupe.
Mike lives with his wife, Jen Stein, on New York's Upper West Side.[17]
He has rapid eye movement behavior disorder (sleepwalking), which caused him to run out of a second-story window of a motel he was staying in Walla Walla, Washington, while on tour. As a result of the accident, Birbiglia received 33 stitches in his leg.[18][11][19]
