County Route 37 was a county highway in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States, known as Brighton Avenue.

Route description

CR 37 ran entirely within Long Branch. Beginning at the intersection of Norwood (County Route 25) and Brighton Avenues, CR 37 extended east 1.10 mile along Brighton Avenue to the intersection of Ocean Avenue.

History

Brighton Avenue was taken over as a county highway on August 11, 1899. [Resolution, Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, August 11, 1899] By 1929 it was designated as County Route 39.

In a 1939 takeover, the CR 37 designation was applied to a portion of the present County Route 549 between County Route 21 and the Ocean County line. Brighton Avenue was at that time included as a part of County Route 14. When CR 549 was established in 1952 as part of the 500 Series, the CR 37 designation became available and was applied to Brighton Avenue.

With the construction of Ocean Boulevard bypassing Ocean Avenue, portions of the latter were closed to vehicular traffic, leaving the portion of CR 37 east of Ocean Boulevard a dead end. This was decommissioned by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders on December 20, 1981. [Resolution, Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, December 20, 1981] When Ocean Boulevard was taken over as County Route 57 on May 14, 1987 an exchange took place where County Route 14 and County Route 37 were decommissioned.
