Route description
Route 619 (Butcher Road) begins at an intersection with Disbrow Hill Road on the Monmouth-Middlesex County border in Monroe Township.[1] Route 619 crosses several creeks before crossing at a traffic light for New Jersey Route 33 where the road becomes Applegarth Road. As the county route heads north, it crosses over the Millstone River and goes through the hamlet of Applegarth. It then intersects Halseey Reed Road and Federal Road Extenion with developments surrounding the area. It continues north and intersects County Route 615. After passing through some wooded area, the road widens and serves Clearbrook on the right and new commercial developments on the left. It continues past Half Acre Road and becomes a two lane road again. It intersects with County Route 614 and crosses over a pair of railroad tracks. The road then meets with access roads to warehouses on the right and Rossmoor on the left. It then comes to the traffic light for County Route 612 where Route 619 ends.
Since Route 619 parallels the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 95) respectively between Exits 8 and 8A, most of the traffic travels between Route 33 (which connects to Mercer and Monmouth Counties, as well as Exit 8 of the Turnpike) and County Route 612 (which leads to Exit 8A).
History
Prior to 2002, Route 619 extended further north along Possum Hollow Road (north of CR 612). It went underneath the railroad track, and ended at Docks Corner Road (CR 698) at the border of Jamesburg and Monroe Township. However, when Monroe Township officials allowed warehouses to be built along 619 (between the railroad and Docks Corner), the underpass for the railroad was destroyed to prevent trucks from using Possom Hollow. The reasons were that the underpass had a low clearance level (therefore, getting trucks stuck) and to prevent future thru-traffic through Jamesburg.[2] Since at least June 2007, Possum Hollow Road was changed to Links Drive.
