The Golden-breasted Woodpecker (Colaptes (melanochloros) melanolaimus) is a bird in the woodpecker family, Picidae. It is sometimes considered a distinct species C. melanolaimus. But more likely it is the southern populations of the Green-barred Woodpecker (Colaptes melanochloros), as it intergrades with the northern populations along the Paraná and Uruguay Rivers.
