Located around twenty kilometres from Modi'in, it falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 278. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.[1]
The village was established in 1984 by the Agudat Israel Workers movement, and was named after the biblical city of Nahaliel and a book by Isaac Breuer, the founder of Agudat Israel Workers.
