* Display: 3.2 in (9 cm) TFT-LCD flat touch-sensitive
HVGA screen with 480 X 320 pixel resolution. The touchscreen eliminates the need for use of a stylus as it is uses a capacitative touchscreen. Users can interact to bring up or move content with a finger touch, tapping or touch-drag motion.* CPU: The MSM7201A is a dual-core CPU/GPU from
Qualcomm and contains many built in features including 3G and a GPU capable of up to 4 million triangles/sec. It has hardware acceleration for Javacite web|url=http://www.qctconnect.com/products/msm_7201.html|title=MSM7201™ Chipset Solution|accessdate=2008-10-4] , but this does not accelerate execution of Android applications, as they are targeted to the Dalvik VM, not the Java VM.* Keyboard: The G1 has a sliding full 5 row
QWERTY keyboard. It also comes with a set of 6 navigation buttons:
** a green phone button – make outbound calls or receive incoming call
** a black home button – displays desktop with home page. Applications can be started using the touch screen or by bringing up a contextual menu using the home button.
** a trackball button – similar to mouse pointer trackballs seen on other smartphones
** a black back button – step back and navigate in reverse through history.
** a red phone button – end currently active calls
** a black menu button – displays the desktop and lists all applications available on the handset.* Audio: The G1 lacks a headphone jack. It does however provide a single 11-pin port designed by HTC (11-pin mini-USB 2.0 and audio jack in one)cite web|url=http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/24/t-mobile-g1-impressions-what-we-love-what-we-dont/|title=T-Mobile G1 impressions: what we love, what we don't|date=2008-09-24|publisher=

The G1 supports audio files in MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, MPEG4, WAV, MIDI, Real Audio, and OGG formats.* Camera: The G1 has 3-megapixel camera. It does not however capture video or offer zoom functionality. The G1 supports playing back H.264, streaming, 3GPP, MPEG4, and Codec 3GP files.
* Storage: The G1 has a microSD card slot and comes with a 1GB memory card. Costs can vary between $10 to $99 depending on the memory size and speed selected. Some reports show G1 will offer a 16GB
microSDHC card support cite web|url=http://androidcommunity.com/t-mobile-g1-android-phone-is-ready-for-sandisk-16gb-microsdhc-card-20080930/|title=T-Mobile G1 Android phone is ready for SanDisk 16GB microSDHC card|date=September 30 ,2008 |publisher=Android Community] .* Battery: The G1 has a rechargeable and user replaceable battery stated to offer up to 5 hours of talk time and 130 hours of standby power.
* Accelerometer: The G1 provides an accelerometer support for sensing movement. A built in digital compass enhances the GPS service to make the accelerometer smarter – North is presented automatically so the user doesn't need to turn around. Users can easily navigate streets simply by rotating the phone. It also automatically aligns the screen display relative to its orientation i.e the display switches between landscape and portrait mode depending on how the phone is held.

The G1 runs on the Android operating system. Most Android software developers write their applications in Java, but since Android does not directly run
J2ME applications, they need to be compiled first to a unique non-Java bytecode before they can be executed on an Android powered phone. The Android operating system offers the same desktop PC interface found on Windows mobile devices, but extends shortcuts and program icons beyond the 3.2in screen to avoid the appearance of clutter. A flick of a finger across the corners of the device makes the hidden space visible. The G1 comes with "ChromeLite" a stripped down version of theGoogle Chrome browser.Other software applications can be downloaded from the
Android Market , which hosts existing and new services from developers. The device comes preloaded with several Google applications like Maps (including satellite view, traffic andGoogle Street View with a built-in compass), GMail, a dedicated YouTube player, Calendar, and Google Talk.cite web|url=http://www.techpluto.com/what-is-android/|title=Android for Dummies|date=September 18 ,2008 |publisher=TechPluto] GPS navigation is available through a built-in GPS receiver.cite web|url=http://www.htc.com/www/product/g1/specification.html|title=HTC – Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer: Products – T-Mobile G1: Specification|date=September 23 ,2008 |publisher=HTC] Maps are displayed in a conventional 2D display or an overhead satellite view; the inbuilt digital compass also allows the navigation of street views in real time. The G1 comes with Amazon's MP3 mobile application. Users can connect to Amazon.com online digital music store to browse and purchase from available titles.cite web|url=http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=97664&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1199842&highlight=|title=Customers Get Quick and Easy Access to Over 6 Million DRM-Free Songs from Amazon MP3 On New T-Mobile G1 Powered by Android Software|date=September 23 ,2008 |publisher=Amazon.com]References
