UMTS frequency bands

UMTS frequency bands or frequency ranges are the radio spectrum frequencies designated for the operation of the UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA / HSPA+ system for mobile phones.

UMTS-FDD

UMTS-FDD is designed to operate in the following paired bands:

Deployment in other frequency bands is not precluded.

UMTS-TDD

UMTS-TDD is designed to operate in the following bands:

UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA frequency bands deployment

*Band I (W-CDMA 2100) in Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania (ITU Region 1) and Brazil (part of ITU Region 2)
*Band II (W-CDMA 1900) in North America and South America (ITU Region 2)
*Band IV (W-CDMA 1700 or Advanced Wireless Services) in the United States (T-Mobile USA)
*Band V (W-CDMA 850) in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the USA, other parts of South America, parts of Asia (ITU Region 2 and ITU Region 3)
*Band VI (W-CDMA 800) in Japan (NTT DoCoMo FOMA Plus)
*Band VIII (W-CDMA 900) in Europe, Asia, Oceania (ITU Region 1 and ITU Region 3), Australia
*Band XII - XIV were added for future use in the 700MHz spectrum auctioned in the United States and Canada in early 2008
