In 1994 Tyngsborough Football won their first ever Super Bowl at the Division 5B level, beating Nantucket 31-7.

In 2001, the Tigers made it back to the Superbowl after a 9-2 regular season campaign and a 21-7 victory over Cohasset in their Division 5 playoff game. This was the first year that a playoff system was implemented. The Tigers traveled to Boston University to play a highly touted Bellingham squad led by superstar and future pro-prospect Ricky Santos. The underdog Tigers came into the game looking to pound the ball with star junior RB John Godfroy, who rushed for 2000 yards on the season. On defense the Tigers implemented a nickel package, hoping to use a three-man front and a spy to keep Santos contained and in the pocket.

Bellingham made it tough for the Tigers in the early going. On defense they stacked the box with an 8 man front, looking to fill the gaps and disrupt the Tiger attack. On offense, the Blackhawks used the Tiger’s game-plan against them, ripping the Tigers with traps and exploiting their three-man front and wide defensive ends. It worked as Bellingham jumped out to an early 14-0 lead as the Tigers run game sputtered under the early pressure and Bellingham ran the ball with ease against the safe defense.

In desperate need of a spark, the Tigers got one as senior speedster Zach Trearchis took a kickoff and raced 92 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first quarter, cutting the Blackhawks' lead to 14-7. Bellingham answered again to push the lead to 21-7 before Trearchis struck again on an 84-yard pass play. With Bellingham heavily cheating on the run, the Tigers decided to open it up as senior captain Jason Laforge tossed a beautiful touch pass down the sideline to Trearchis who ripped the ball away from the defender and raced 50 yards down the sideline for the score. Bellingham added a field goal before the half and the score stood at 24-13 going into the locker room.

As the teams came out of the locker room for the second half, it was anyone’s game. The Tigers adjusted their defense and went to a four man front which aided in bottling up Bellingham’s trap game. After a stalemate to start the half, Santos struck at the 2:00 mark of the third quarter. After dropping back to pass, Santos rolled away from the pressure and scrambled around in the backfield before firing a 42 yard dagger to Virgil Watson to put the Blackhawks in the driver’s seat at 31-14.

The Tigers showed their resolve as they refused to let this one slip away without a fight. Working behind a big offensive line, Godfroy and the Tiger’s run game came alive in the fourth quarter. Faced with a fourth-and-one from the 21 yard line, Godfroy got the call and ripped off a 64 yard run, breaking several tackles as he sprinted down the sideline. This set up a 1 yard score by Godfroy with 9:56 left. For the conversion, Laforge made a great play fake and found full back John Tartaglia in the corner of the end-zone to bring the crowd alive and put the Tigers within ten at 31-21.

J.J Sullivan then recovered an onside kick and the Tiger’s had life with 6:37 to play. The Tyngsboro program is steeped in tradition and pride and the Tigers wanted to put themselves up there with the 94’ team who steamrolled Nantucket in the 94’ bowl game. The Tigers marched down the field and Godfroy punched another TD in from the 1 to cut the lead to three, 31-28.

With Bellingham trying to ice the game, the Tigers defense stiffened on third down, stuffing Santos as he tried a QB draw up the middle, a play that worked to no end in the first half. Santos was swarmed by a host of Tyngsboro white jerseys and was driven into his backfield as Bellingham was forced to punt it away, giving Tyngsboro the ball with a chance to go ahead. However, when the Tiger’s drive stalled on their own 36, they decided to fake a punt on 4th and 11. The play yielded only 6 yards and the Tiger’s went down to the Blackhawks 38-28 after Santos punctuated the game with a 25 yard TD jaunt with under 2 minutes to go.

In 2002, they were shutout by Abington 25-0. In 2003 they went to the Super Bowl again to lose to Westwood 21-14. They entered one of the hardest athletic leagues in Massachusetts called the Dual County League in 2007 obtaining a 5-6 record.

In 2007, the Baseball team became Division 3 North Champions. This year, they have earned a shot into the state tournament and becoming Dual County League Champions in the small school division.
