David Brent Nail (born May 18, 1979) is an American country music artist. In 2002, he debuted the single "Memphis," a cut from an unreleased album for Mercury Records Nashville. Five years later, he signed to MCA Nashville (which, like Mercury, is under the ownership of Universal Music Group Nashville), and released the album I'm About to Come Alive in August 2009. This album has accounted for three more singles: the title track, as well as "Red Light" and "Turning Home," the latter two of which have reached Top 20. His second studio album, The Sound of a Million Dreams, was released in November 2011.

Musical career

Nail's first recording contract was with Mercury Nashville Records in 2002.[2] While on the label, he recorded a self-titled debut album, which was produced by Keith Stegall and John Kelton.[3] The lead-off single, "Memphis", reached #52 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. Deborah Evans Price gave the song a mostly-positive review, calling the song a "solid performance" but saying that she considered its storyline implausible.[4] Advance copies of Nail's album were sent to radio stations, but the album was not commercially released.[5] After exiting the label, Nail took a break from the music business to help coach a baseball team.[3] Nail, a Missouri native, sang God Bless America at Game 7 of the 2011 World Series in St Louis between the St Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers.

I'm About to Come Alive (2007–2010)

Nail signed to MCA Nashville, also a division of Universal Music Group Nashville, in April 2007.[5] His first release for the label was "I'm About to Come Alive," a cover version of a song previously recorded by the alternative rock band Train on its 2003 album My Private Nation.[6] This song, which peaked at number 47 on the country charts, was the first single and title track from his MCA album, which was originally scheduled to be released on August 26, 2008, but was pushed back to August 18, 2009. Its second single, "Red Light," entered Top 40 in May 2009 and peaked at number seven.

Nail's first MCA album was produced by Frank Liddell and Mike Wrucke, the same producers who work for Miranda Lambert. The album includes a duet with Lambert, as well as co-writes with Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts' lead singer Gary LeVox, and five songs that Nail co-wrote.[7] "Turning Home," which Chesney co-wrote with Scooter Carusoe, is the album's third single. Chesney had originally planned to record this song himself.[8] The song reached number 20 in 2010.

The Sound of a Million Dreams (2011-present)

In February 2011, Nail released his fifth single, "Let It Rain," which became his third Top 20 country hit in September 2011. It served as the lead-off single to his second studio album, The Sound of a Million Dreams, which was released on November 15, 2011.[9] On October 28, 2011 David Nail was tapped to sing God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch of the 2011 World Series deciding game seven at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

Personal life

David was born and grew up in Kennett, Missouri where his father was the local High School Band Director. He married longtime girlfriend Catherine Werne on June 6, 2009 in Franklin, Tennessee.[10]

He participated in the 2010 Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, hitting a home run pass the right-field fence in Angel Stadium.[11]

David attended Arkansas State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.[12]
