List of mergers in Yamaguchi Prefecture

The following is a list of mergers that occurred in the 2000s in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

Mergers from April 1, 1999 to March 31, 2000

Mergers from April 1, 2000 to March 31, 2001

Mergers from April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2002

Mergers from April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2003

Mergers from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004

*On April 21, 2003 - the cities of Tokuyama and Shinnan'yō; the town of Kumage from Kumage District, and the town of Kano from Tsuno District merged to form the city of Shūnan. Tsuno District was dissolved as a result of this merger.

Mergers from April 1, 2004 to March 31, 2005

*On October 1, 2004 - the towns of Kuka, Ōshima, Tachibana and Tōwa (all from Ōshima District) merged to form the town of Suō-Ōshima.

*On October 4, 2004 - the old city of Hikari and the town of Yamato from Kumage District merged to form the new city of Hikari.

*On November 1, 2004 - the town of Kusunoki from Asa District merged into the city of Ube.

*On February 13, 2005 - the old city of Shimonoseki; the towns of Hohoku, Kikugawa, Toyoura and Toyota from Toyoura District merged to form the new city of Shimonoseki. (Toyoura District was dissolved as a result of this merger.)

*On February 21, 2005 - the old city of Yanai and the town of Ōbatake from Kuga District merged to form the new city of Yanai.

*On March 6, 2005 - the city of Hagi; and the municipalities of Asahi, Fukue, Kawakami, Tamagawa, Mutsumi and Susa (all from Abu District) merged to form the new city of Hagi.

*On March 22, 2005 - the city of Nagato; and the towns of Heki, Misumi and Yuya from Ōtsu District merged to form the new city of Nagato. (Otsu District was dissolved as a result of this merger.)

*On March 22, 2005 - the city of Onoda; and the town of San'yō from Asa District merged to form the new city of San'yō-Onoda. (Asa District was dissolved as a result of this merger.)

Mergers from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006

*On October 1, 2005 - the city of Yamaguchi (2nd generation); the town of Tokuji from Saba District, and the towns of Aio, Ajisu and Ogōri (all from Yoshiki District) merged to form the new city of Yamaguchi (3rd generation). (Saba District and Yoshiki District were both dissolved as a result of this merger.)

*On March 20, 2006 - the city of Iwakuni; the towns of Yū, Kuga, Shūtō, Nishiki, Mikawa and Miwa and the village of Hongō (all from Kuga District) merged to from the new city of Iwakuni. (There are no longer villages within Yamaguchi Prefecture)

*On March 21, 2008 - the city of Mine absorbed the towns of Mitō and Shūhō. Mine District, which comprises solely of those two towns, dissolved upon the merger. [http://www.city.mine.lg.jp/mine-gappei/index.html]
