It is a simple fluorocarbon with the n-butane skeleton, but with hydrogen atoms in n-butane are replaced with fluorine atoms. It is used as a replacement for Halon 1301 fire extinguishers,[1] as well as being an ultrasound imaging agent. As a pharmaceutical, it is known as sonazoid or perflubutane (USAN).
