Walden University was a school in Nashville, Tennessee created in 1865 as a small school for freedmen. It closed in 1925 due to financial difficulties.
History
Walden University opened as school for freedmen in 1865. It was chartered as Central Tennessee College in 1867. Courses included teacher education, agriculture, science, and theology. In 1900, Central Tennessee College was renamed to Walden University in honor of Bishop John Morgan Walden.
In 1922, Walden University was renamed to Walden College, serving as a junior college.
