Athletics

Oakville High School is well known for their achievements academically and athletically, especially in basketball, soccer, wrestling, softball, marching band, volleyball, football.

The soccer program is the only public school to have won two state titles dating back to 1976.

While not known well for their achievements in water polo, in recent years they've achieved much success in the sport, making it as far as 2nd in state in 2007. The varsity team's star player, Chris Duckworth, was recognized both locally and nationally for his grand achievement of scoring over 100 goals in one season, a feat rarely accomplished even by Olympic-level players.

The men's hockey team won the State Championship in 2006 against Christian Brothers Academy and the Wickenheiser Cup Championship in 2010 against Eureka.

The men's basketball team made its first trip to the Final Four in Columbia, Missouri in 2009 led by forward Keith Pickens, who is now a member of the division I Missouri State Bears team, also a notable student Javier Duren who leads the school is scoring as of 2010 is now a member of the Ivy League Yale Bulldogs.

The following year, the men's basketball team made its second trip to the Final Four, this time competing in the State Championship against Hillcrest. They lost their lead in the fourth quarter.[1]

Oakville's football program also won back to back district titles in 2008 and 2009, reaching the quarterfinals in the former and the semifinals in the latter where they lost to Hazelwood Central who went on to win the state championship against Blue Springs the following week.

The school's honor band program also has quite a few achievements. The band consistently places first in local competition, and advances to finals in the regional competitions, under the direction of Vance Breakfield and Theron Perkowski.

Oakville's choir is also very well-accomplished, consistently winning "Gold" rankings in the National Heritage Festival, and ranking in the top 4% nation wide, under the direction of Paula Martin and Erin Falloon.

Academically, Oakville is continually becoming a top performing school annually producing nationally and locally recognized scholars entering college schools such as Yale.

Students earning AP honors in the Advanced Placement Tests include:

• AP Scholars — James Ballard, senior; Ellen Chopin, senior; Cassi Greenlee, 2009 graduate; Kyle Hampton, senior; Lauren Hebert, 2009 graduate; Amy Meyer, senior; Colleen Schmittgens, 2009 graduate; Olivia Schornheuser, 2009 graduate; Daniel Stefanus, senior; and Travis Zimpfer, 2009 graduate.
