Rugby
Oakville Trafalgar has an exceptional rugby program. In the AAAA division, the Senior (Grades 11 and 12) team has lost one Halton (regional) championship in the past 39 years. The defeat came at the hands of Notre Dame from Burlington in 2000. Head coach David Shaffler and volunteer assistant coach Gary Turnbull have managed the team for a long time, and Turnbull was the original founder of the team. The Junior (Grade 10) team also has a good reputation, and lost Halton in the 2008 season for the first time in 9 years. The final team, the Midgets, are a developmental team who still manages to crush the opposition. In the 2008 season, the boys managed to come in 3rd in Ontario.
In the 2011 season, the Senior Boys rugby team hosted the OFSAA tournament, beating Abbey Park High School to win the Bronze Medal. Abbey Park only qualified on a technicality, and did surprisingly well against top teams in the province, but were defeated by their regional rivals, Oakville Trafalgar, displaying the team's relentless dominance.
In recent years (since the 1990s), Nelson, Notre Dame, TA Blakelock and Abbey Park have challenged OT for the senior boys title. Their efforts have still remained fruitless as the Senior Boys team have managed to retain the Halton Championship of the past several decades.
FIRST Robotics
The OTHS Red Devil Robotics Team is an FRC team that was founded in 2003. They are well-known for their community outreach. The team went to the World Championships twice throughout their career, in 2009 and 2010.[1] Their website is www.othsrobotics.ca.
