Bagley is a village in Grant County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin located on the Upper Mississippi River about 9 miles (15 km) south of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. The population was 339 at the 2000 census. Geography

Bagley is located at coor dms|42|54|10|N|91|6|3|W|city (42.902764, -91.100714)GR|1.

The village is right on the Mississippi in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, with tremdously steep bluffs behind it.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.0 km²), of which, 0.8 square miles (1.9 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (5.06%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 339 people, 157 households, and 107 families residing in the village. The population density was 451.7 people per square mile (174.5/km²). There were 331 housing units at an average density of 441.1/sq mi (170.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.76% White, 0.88% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.59% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.47% of the population.

There were 157 households out of which 22.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.63.

In the village the population was spread out with 17.1% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 33.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $26,944, and the median income for a family was $38,906. Males had a median income of $27,841 versus $20,625 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,685. About 8.9% of families and 11.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.4% of those under age 18 and 2.7% of those age 65 or over.

Flood of July 18, 2007

The village suffered tremendous damage on July 18, 2007 when a large thunderstorm system dumped convert|7|in|mm of rain to the area. One writer with the Weather Channel describes "a textbook case" of a "mesoscale convective systems", bringing thunderstorms with huge amounts of rain and lightning. No deaths or injuries were reported by the emergency management people, but 50 people were reported to have been evacuated from their homes by boat.
